Zoom Unveils Upgraded AI Features at Zoomtopia 2025

Zoom introduced a wave of new tools at its annual Zoomtopia conference on Wednesday, with a strong focus on upgraded AI capabilities. The company revealed an enhanced AI companion designed to integrate across different meeting platforms and improve productivity for users.

The upgraded AI assistant now allows personal notes, smart meeting scheduling, and lifelike avatars. These features aim to give Zoom an edge over rivals such as Otter, Fireflies, and Read AI, which already provide cross-platform note-taking. With this update, Zoom’s AI companion can now operate in Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, and even during in-person meetings.

One of the key changes is the ability for participants to jot down short notes, which the upgraded AI then expands into structured summaries. The system also includes cross-platform search, letting users retrieve information stored across Google and Microsoft environments.

Calendar integration has also been improved. The AI companion can recommend the best time slots for attendees and suggest which meetings might be skipped to free up time. Proactive meeting recommendations will include suggested tasks and agenda items, helping participants prepare more effectively.

Zoom also introduced photorealistic avatars that mirror user gestures during video calls. While this feature is meant to assist when users are not camera-ready, concerns have been raised about potential misuse for impersonation. IT teams may need to decide whether to enable it.

Additionally, hosts will now have access to Zoom Clips, an asynchronous video tool. This can be used alongside avatars to greet participants and explain meeting goals. AI-powered live translation and writing assistance for emails and documents are also part of the rollout.

Other improvements include higher frame rate video, a refreshed web interface, and support for custom AI agents through Model Context Protocol (MCP). Together, these developments show Zoom’s push to stay ahead in the competitive AI-driven productivity market.
