On November 10, 1910, Raja Muhammad Sarwar was born at Singhori village, Gujar Khan District. His father, Raja Muhammad Hayat Khan, was a constable in the British army. Because of his sacrifices during World War I, the British government gave Raja Hayat Khan land near Samundari.Raja Sarwar received his primary and secondary studies at Islamia High School in Faisalabad. He was the youngest of four siblings. During his youth, Raja Sarwar was particularly interested in football and kabaddi. He married in 1936 and had two children, a son and a daughter.

He joined the army in April 1929 as a sepoy and served in the Baloch Regiment till 1941. In 1944, he was commissioned in the Punjab Regiment and advanced to the rank of Second Lieutenant.
He joined the Punjab Regiment in 1946 and rose to the rank of Captain just months before Pakistan was formed. Raja Muhammad Sarwar volunteered to join the battalion formed to reclaim Kashmir after the country was re-established on the world map in 1947.
He was promoted to Company Commander of the Punjab Regiment’s Second Battalion. Under his command, the regiment was able to force the Indian forces to withdraw from various areas of Gilgit-Baltistan.
As he and his battalion advanced, the intensity of gunfire, grenade strikes, and mortar bombardment increased. On July 27, 1948, he was killed by numerous rounds to the chest while attempting to cut a barbed wire barrier in order to advance further into enemy lines.
Captain Sarwar was given the Nishan-e-Haider by the Pakistan army in honor of his bravery. Sarwar Shaheed College in Gujar Khan was named after him.
