In another shocking case of domestic violence in Faisalabad, a man named Abid allegedly assaulted his wife, Sana, with a hot iron rod, leaving burns on her body, and tortured her with a stick. The police revealed that Abid had a history of regular abuse and had repeatedly threatened to kill her.
Sana’s mother explained that Abid’s violent behavior stemmed from the divorce of her other daughter, Rabia, who had divorced Abid’s brother, Atiq, after being blamed for her inability to conceive. Following this, Abid began subjecting Sana to intense physical abuse.

Sana’s mother also stated that Abid confined her daughter at home, making constant threats to her life. After enduring continuous violence, Sana, a mother of two, managed to escape and find refuge at her parents’ home. She is now receiving medical care.
In response to rising domestic violence cases, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz launched the Virtual Women Police Station (VWPS) in April 2024 to protect women and ensure swift action against abuse. Since its establishment, the VWPS has handled over 114,000 domestic violence complaints, resolving half of them within six months.
However, despite calls to strengthen the legal framework, including increasing fines and making domestic violence a non-bailable offense, many cases still lack adequate legal provisions. Only 3,365 out of 59,798 cases were registered as cognizable offenses, with the rest being treated as non-cognizable.
