The salaries and allowances of federal cabinet members have been significantly raised, with federal ministers, ministers of state, and advisers receiving an increase of up to 188%.
Sources reported on Thursday that federal ministers approved a summary for their own salary increments, as well as those of ministers of state, through circulation. This decision was made possible by an amendment to the Federal Ministers and Ministers of State (Allowances and Salaries) Act, 1975, allowing for these substantial hikes.

With the new bill’s approval, the monthly salary for a federal minister, minister of state, and adviser has now been revised to Rs519,000. Previously, federal ministers earned Rs200,000, while ministers of state had a salary of Rs180,000.
This revision translates into a 159% salary increase for federal ministers, whereas ministers of state and advisers have seen their salaries surge by 188%.
The newly amended salary structure has been implemented with immediate effect.
Earlier, in January 2025, the Finance Committee had sanctioned a pay increase for MNAs and senators, setting their monthly salary at Rs519,000, with the change taking effect from January 1, 2025.
However, the salaries of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly remain unchanged, as the Finance Committee does not have the authority to alter their pay. As confirmed by the Speaker’s Office, they will continue to receive Rs218,000 per month.
A proposal suggesting that lawmakers’ salaries and benefits be aligned with those of a federal secretary was submitted to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
According to sources, the National Assembly’s Finance Committee approved the proposal, following which Speaker Ayaz Sadiq forwarded the recommendations to the prime minister. The proposal sought to set the monthly salary and allowances of MNAs and senators at Rs519,000.
