Murree and Galyat Forest Fires: Wildlife, Homes, and Heritage at Risk

Forest fires continue to wreak havoc in the forests of Murree and Galyat, reducing three houses to rubble.

Numerous trees, shrubs, and wildlife are being consumed by the relentless flames. Locals warn that the forests in these mountainous regions are particularly vulnerable to such disasters.

They have expressed concerns that without immediate intervention from the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governments, the future of these famous tourist spots could be in jeopardy.

Thick smoke from the fires is visible during the day, while the flames intensify and light up the night. The fires pose a grave threat to animals, birds, and other wildlife in the area.

In Galyat’s Nambley Maira Cham village, two homes were completely destroyed by the blaze, while another house in the Mallot Sattian area of Murree also fell victim to the flames.

In response, the Murree district administration and the TDCP have scheduled a consultation meeting with the local community today at 10 AM at the Patriata chairlift parking lot.
