Rescue 1122 officials received a distress call about the abandoned infant near LDA Road. When they arrived, they discovered the baby wrapped in a plastic bag. Despite the dire situation, the baby was alive and immediately transported to the Children’s Hospital for medical treatment.

After the incident, Punjab’s Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz took immediate action, instructing the Child Protection Bureau to take custody of the child. Chairperson Sarah Ahmed confirmed that a team was dispatched to the hospital to ensure the baby’s well-being.
“The child will receive the best care and protection under the bureau’s supervision,” said Ahmed, emphasizing the government’s commitment to protecting vulnerable children.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine how the baby ended up at the construction site and to identify those responsible for abandoning her.
Meanwhile, a new sick newborn care unit was inaugurated at the Women and Children Hospital in Abbottabad by K-P Health Advisor Ihtesham Khan, UNICEF Chief of Field Office Radoslaw Rzehak, and UNICEF Health Team Lead Dr. Inamullah Khan.
During the event, the health advisor stressed the importance of quality newborn care to combat high newborn mortality rates in the region. He also thanked UNICEF for supporting newborn care initiatives and revealed that the K-P government plans to establish similar units in district hospitals using UNICEF’s model.
Radoslaw Rzehak reiterated UNICEF’s support for the government’s health, nutrition, and education efforts, while Dr. Inamullah highlighted the unit’s advanced capabilities to provide top-tier newborn care to surrounding districts.
