Real Madrid triumphed 3-0 over Mexican team Pachuca to claim the Intercontinental Cup at Lusail Stadium in Qatar on Wednesday.
The Spanish club dominated throughout, despite brief moments where Pachuca threatened. Goals from Kylian Mbappe, Rodrygo, and Vinicius Junior secured the win, marking a significant milestone for manager Carlo Ancelotti, who became the most decorated coach in Real Madrid’s history with 15 titles after being named FIFA Men’s Coach of the Year.

The match began with Real Madrid showing some hesitation, but they quickly found their rhythm. In the 37th minute, Vinicius Junior’s clever play set up Mbappe for an easy tap-in. In the second half, Rodrygo doubled their lead with an impressive solo goal, curling a shot into the top corner in the 52nd minute. Despite reaching the final after defeating Al Ahly, Pachuca offered little resistance, and Real’s defense held firm.
Vinicius Junior sealed the victory in the 83rd minute, converting a penalty after Oussama Idrissi fouled Lucas Vazquez in the box. This marked Real Madrid’s second trophy of the season, after their UEFA Super Cup win in August. Ancelotti acknowledged that although the team had a rocky start, they finished strong with a positive attitude.
With this win, Real Madrid added to their impressive trophy collection, now holding nine global titles, including three Intercontinental Cups and five Club World Cups.
The inaugural edition of the Intercontinental Cup featured the champions of six continental competitions and is set to replace the traditional Club World Cup, which will be held every four years starting in 2025. Real Madrid’s next match is a La Liga fixture against Sevilla, followed by a Spanish Super Cup clash in Saudi Arabia next January.
