Sahiwal Sees 17% Surge in Crime Rate in 2024

The Sahiwal police report for 2024 revealed that 23,314 cases were registered, marking an increase of 3,393 compared to 2023. However, the prosecution rate slightly declined, with 71% of cases prosecuted in 2024, down from 76% the previous year.

Throughout the year, the police registered 1,486 cases and apprehended 1,510 individuals. They made significant recoveries, including 743kg of cannabis, 172kg of opium, 29kg of heroin, 4.5kg of ICE, 19,478 liters of alcohol, and shut down 88 illegal distilleries.

Efforts to curb illegal arms resulted in 996 cases and the arrest of 1,010 suspects, with notable recoveries including 814 pistols, 66 shotguns, 44 rifles, 10 Kalashnikovs, and over 3,000 rounds of ammunition. In their pursuit of fugitives and repeat offenders, the police arrested 462 Category A fugitives, 3,946 Category B fugitives, 2,108 court absconders, and 2,674 habitual criminals.

In property-related crimes, the police successfully solved over 3,500 cases and recovered stolen assets worth Rs325.9 million. Additionally, they dismantled 43 criminal gangs involved in robberies, livestock theft, and dacoities, recovering another Rs43.1 million worth of stolen property.

Police encounters led to six criminals being killed, five injured, and 20 arrested, while detectives solved 10 out of 12 unresolved murder cases using modern investigative techniques. Over 116,000 citizens benefited from services such as general verifications, FIR copies, character certificates, and learner licenses.

The department also launched special initiatives, supporting over 3,900 women, transgender individuals, and differently-abled citizens through the Police Protection Centre.
