WhatsApp to Roll Out Spotify Song Sharing Feature in Status Updates

WhatsApp is set to upgrade its music-sharing experience by introducing a new feature that allows users to share Spotify songs directly in their status updates.

Currently in development, this feature will function similarly to Instagram Stories, enabling users to post tracks from Spotify to their WhatsApp status with ease.

How It Works

The feature was first identified in the WhatsApp beta update for Android 2.25.8.3 on the Google Play Store. As reported by WABetaInfo, users will soon find an additional option when sharing music from Spotify.

Besides the existing ability to send songs as messages to contacts or groups, users will have the choice to post them as WhatsApp status updates.

WhatsApp will generate a preview of the shared song, showcasing the title, artist, and album cover.

Anyone viewing the status will see a ‘Play on Spotify’ button, which allows them to listen to the track directly on the Spotify app.

This feature is expected to simplify music discovery, eliminating the need for users to search for songs manually.

Privacy & Security

WhatsApp assures that user privacy will not be affected, as status updates will continue to be protected with end-to-end encryption. This ensures that only the intended audience can access the shared music content, with no third-party, including WhatsApp, having access.

Expected Release

Currently, the feature is still under development, and WhatsApp has not provided an official launch date. However, it is expected to be included in a future update.
