In a heartbreaking incident, a 26-year-old IPS officer lost his life in a road accident in Karnataka’s Hassan district while traveling to take up his first posting, police reported on Monday.
The officer, identified as Harsh Bardhan, a 2023-batch IPS officer from Madhya Pradesh, was assigned to the Karnataka cadre.

Details of the Accident
The accident occurred on Sunday evening when the vehicle Bardhan was traveling in suffered a tyre burst near Kittane in Hassan taluk. Losing control, the car crashed into a house and a tree. Bardhan, who was en route to assume his role as probationary Assistant Superintendent of Police in Holenarasipur, sustained severe head injuries and passed away during treatment. The driver, Manjegowda, sustained minor injuries.
Bardhan, the son of a sub-divisional magistrate, had recently completed a four-week training at the Karnataka Police Academy in Mysuru.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed deep sorrow over Bardhan’s untimely death, describing it as a tragic loss of a hardworking officer on the brink of starting his career. “It is devastating that such an accident happened just as years of effort were about to pay off,” the CM stated in a post on X.
