To celebrate Guru Nanak’s 555th birth anniversary, the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi has issued visas to over 3,000 Indian pilgrims. The visas, valid from November 14 to November 23, fall under the 1974 Pakistan-India religious tourism agreement.

The pilgrims will enter Pakistan through the Wagah border on November 14, with the main celebration at Gurdwara Janam Asthan in Nankana Sahib on November 15. During their stay, they will visit other revered sites like Gurdwara Panja Sahib Hassan Abdal, Gurdwara Sacha Sauda Farooqabad, and Gurdwara Rori Sahib Eminabad. The itinerary includes a ceremony at Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur on November 19, followed by a stay at Gurdwara Dera Sahib Lahore, before departing on November 24.

Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora, President of the Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, has advised pilgrims to bring US dollars instead of Indian currency to ease currency exchanges. The Pakistani High Commission also announced on-arrival visas for Sikh pilgrims from the US, UK, Canada, and Australia.

However, out of 2,244 visa applications, 1,481 were rejected, with 763 visas granted, as noted by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee in Amritsar.
