Field Marshal Asim Munir Likely to Meet Trump Soon

Field Marshal Asim Munir Expected to Meet Trump Soon

Pakistan’s army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, is expected to travel to Washington in the coming weeks. According to Reuters, he is likely to meet US President Donald Trump during the visit. This would be their third meeting in the past six months.

Sources familiar with the matter said the talks may focus on the situation in Gaza. The meeting is expected to discuss a proposed international force for Gaza’s future. President Trump has outlined a 20-point plan linked to the territory.

The plan suggests forming a force from Muslim-majority countries. This force would oversee a transition period in Gaza. Its role would include reconstruction and economic recovery. Gaza has suffered heavy destruction after more than two years of Israeli military operations.

Many countries remain cautious about joining such a mission. Officials fear the force could be drawn into direct conflict. One major concern is the task of disarming Hamas. Several nations believe this could escalate tensions.

Field Marshal Asim Munir has developed closer ties with President Trump in recent months. Analysts say this relationship aims to rebuild trust between Islamabad and Washington. Relations between the two countries had faced strain in previous years.

In June, Munir was invited to a private lunch at the White House. It marked a rare moment in US-Pakistan relations. A US president had not hosted Pakistan’s army chief alone before. No civilian officials attended the meeting.

Pakistan’s military and foreign offices have not commented on the reported visit. The information ministry also did not respond to questions from Reuters. The White House declined to issue a statement on the matter.

Last month, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar addressed the issue publicly. He said Pakistan could consider sending troops for peacekeeping duties. However, he stressed that disarming Hamas was not Pakistan’s responsibility.

Pakistan holds a unique position in the Muslim world. It is the only Muslim-majority country with nuclear weapons. Its military has extensive combat experience.

The armed forces have fought long insurgencies within Pakistan. They have also dealt with militant threats in remote regions. Currently, Pakistan faces renewed violence from militant groups operating from Afghanistan.

Observers say Field Marshal Asim Munir may use the meeting to highlight Pakistan’s security concerns. Regional stability and counterterrorism cooperation may also be discussed. The visit could shape future engagement between the two countries.

Further details about the meeting are expected closer to the travel date.
