Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese married his long-time partner Jodie Haydon in a private ceremony at The Lodge on Saturday. The wedding is historic, marking the first time an Australian PM has wed while in office and the first to marry at the official residence.
In a joint statement, the couple said, โWe are absolutely delighted to share our love and commitment to spending our future lives together, in front of our family and closest friends.โ
Albanese and his long-time partner wrote their own vows and walked down the aisle to Ben Foldsโ song โThe Luckiest.โ Haydon walked with her parents wearing a dress by Sydney designer Romance Was Born, while Albanese wore a suit by MJ Bale. Their dog, Toto, served as the ring bearer.
The newlyweds plan a short honeymoon within Australia from Monday to Friday. Albanese and his long-time partner first met in 2019 at a business dinner, bonding over their mutual love for the South Sydney Rabbitohs. Haydon also accompanied the Prime Minister during his 2022 and 2025 election campaigns.
On Valentineโs Day last year, Albanese proposed, becoming the first Australian PM to get engaged while in office. The couple kept their wedding private, mainly for security reasons, and chose not to invite international dignitaries. โItโs not a political event. Itโs an event between Jodie and me,โ Albanese said in an interview.
Reflecting on his decision, Albanese said, โWhen it became clear to me that Jodie was the person I wanted to spend the rest of my life with, and that I couldnโt imagine a life without her, I made the decision.โ He also consulted his son Nathan before proposing, ensuring family support for the union.
The marriage of Anthony Albanese and his long-time partner Jodie Haydon is being celebrated as a deeply personal and historic moment in Australian politics, blending love, family, and tradition at the nationโs official residence.
