Blinken: Israel Agreed to Gaza Withdrawal Terms Despite Netanyahu

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken confirmed on Tuesday that Israel has agreed to the terms of a proposed withdrawal of its forces from Gaza, despite conflicting reports from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Blinken emphasized that the proposal clearly outlines the schedule and locations for the IDF’s withdrawal, which Israel has accepted.

Netanyahu reportedly stated that Israel would not withdraw from strategic areas such as the Philadelphi corridor and the Netzarim corridor, which are vital for military and political reasons. Blinken responded to these remarks, dismissing them as unconstructive and stressing that the focus should remain on finalizing the ceasefire agreement.

Blinken’s comments came during his visit to Qatar, where he was working to finalize a ceasefire deal with Hamas. The negotiations, involving U.S. officials and experts, are progressing, but Blinken acknowledged that implementing the agreement will require further detailed discussions and flexibility from all parties.

As part of his regional trip, Blinken also met with Egyptian and Qatari officials, although his meeting with the Qatari Emir was canceled due to illness. Hamas criticized the U.S. and Israeli positions, accusing them of misleading negotiations and obstructing progress. Despite the ongoing challenges, Blinken emphasized the urgent need for an agreement to achieve a ceasefire and ensure long-term peace and security.
