Major Canada Immigration Changes and Deadlines Coming Into Effect in June 2026

Major Canada Immigration Changes and Deadlines Coming Into Effect in June 2026

June 2026 is shaping up to be a critical month for Canada Immigration, with multiple federal and provincial updates affecting applicants, workers, and employers. Several key deadlines and policy changes are scheduled across the month.

Officials say the changes impact work permit holders, provincial nominee applicants, Quebec sponsors, and those waiting for program decisions. The overall system is entering a high-pressure phase with overlapping reforms.

One of the most important updates in Canada Immigration is the end of a temporary study policy for work permit holders. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will terminate this policy on June 27, 2026.

The policy, introduced in 2023, allowed eligible workers to study without a separate study permit. After the deadline, individuals must hold a valid study permit to continue studying.

Authorities also confirmed that study time under this policy will not count toward Post-Graduation Work Permit eligibility. This change is expected to impact many foreign workers already in Canada.

Another major development in Canada Immigration is the closure of the immigration levels consultation. IRCC will end public feedback on June 14, 2026.

This consultation helps shape the 2027โ€“2029 Immigration Levels Plan. It includes input on permanent residency targets, temporary resident numbers, and Francophone immigration goals.

The current plan sets annual permanent resident admissions at 380,000. The new feedback will guide future immigration priorities across Canada.

Ontario has also introduced changes under the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program. The updated rules allow the province to create or remove immigration streams more quickly based on labor market needs.

Several older pathways have already been removed. New streams may now be introduced without lengthy regulatory delays, making Canada Immigration more dynamic at the provincial level.

British Columbia is also launching a targeted health support initiative under the BC PNP. Registration opens on June 15, 2026, for selected workers in rural health facilities.

Quebecโ€™s family sponsorship intake period will end on June 25, 2026. The province has reached its cap of 13,000 applications for the current cycle.

Quebec is also expected to finalize decisions on older skilled worker applications by June 30, 2026.

Experts say June 2026 does not bring one major overhaul but several overlapping deadlines. This makes Canada Immigration particularly complex during this period.

Applicants and employers are advised to track deadlines carefully. Missing key dates could affect eligibility, approvals, or future immigration opportunities.
