Beijing has urged Afghanistan to ensure the safety of its nationals following a bombing in Kabul that killed at least seven people. Among the dead was a Chinese man.
The explosion occurred at a Chinese Noodle restaurant in central Kabulโs Shahr-e-Naw area on Monday. Six Afghan citizens were also killed, and five Chinese nationals were injured, officials said. The restaurant mainly served Chinese Muslims.
The attack was claimed by the regional branch of the Islamic State group, according to the SITE Intelligence Group. Authorities said it was a suicide bombing targeting Chinese nationals.
Chinaโs Foreign Ministry has demanded urgent measures to protect its citizens after bombing incidents in Afghanistan. โChina has made urgent representations with the Afghan side, demanding that they spare no effort to treat the injured and protect the safety of Chinese citizens,โ said spokesman Guo Jiakun.
Chinese officials also warned their citizens against traveling to Afghanistan. Guo advised that citizens after bombing should enhance their awareness, strengthen security measures, and evacuate high-risk areas immediately.
The Taliban government has pledged to restore security and attract foreign investment amid declining international aid. Since the Taliban regained power in 2021, Chinese business visitors have frequently traveled to Afghanistan.
This is not the first time Chinese nationals have been targeted. In 2022, the Islamic State claimed a deadly attack on a Kabul hotel popular with Chinese guests. Security concerns continue to affect foreign nationals, particularly Chinese, in the country.
Beijing continues to emphasize the protection of citizens after bombing events, urging Afghan authorities to act swiftly and prevent further attacks. The latest incident has heightened tensions and concerns over the safety of foreign visitors in Afghanistan.
Officials noted that citizens after bombing should remain vigilant and avoid high-risk areas while the Taliban government works to improve security measures in Kabul.
