Cyclone Alfred Leaves Thousands Without Power in Australia

Eastern Australia is facing severe disruptions after Cyclone Alfred caused widespread flooding, power outages, and destruction across Queensland and northern New South Wales. Nearly 290,000 properties remain without electricity as crews work to restore services in affected areas.

Emergency teams have responded to over 6,000 distress calls, with authorities confirming the death of a 61-year-old man in northern NSW after he was swept away by floodwaters. Meanwhile, a military convoy crash near Lismore left 12 soldiers injured, with two in serious condition.

Though Cyclone Alfred has weakened into a tropical depression, officials warn that dangerous weather conditions, including flash flooding and heavy winds, could persist. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese urged residents to remain cautious as emergency services continue rescue efforts.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, with ongoing evacuations and flood rescues in high-risk areas. Queensland police have reported no fatalities in the state so far.
