Drone Strikes Resume Across Ukraine as Brief Easter Ceasefire Ends

A series of Russian drone attacks struck multiple Ukrainian regions on Monday, hours after the expiration of a 30-hour ceasefire announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin in observance of Orthodox Easter. The short-lived truce, described as a “humanitarian pause,” failed to halt violence, with both Kyiv and Moscow trading accusations of violations during its duration.

Ukraine’s air force reported air raid sirens in major regions including Kyiv, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia. In Mykolaiv, explosions were confirmed, though immediate casualties were not reported. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russian forces breached the truce over 2,000 times, urging for a longer, genuine halt in hostilities.

Russia, meanwhile, accused Ukraine of 444 artillery strikes and over 900 drone attacks, claiming civilian damage in border regions. Despite Kremlin claims of restraint, Ukrainian civilians expressed distrust, calling the ceasefire a mere tactical pause for Russian regrouping.

Military activity never fully ceased, according to Ukrainian officials, although front-line combat intensity dropped briefly. Analysts suggest Moscow aimed to gain diplomatic leverage through the truce, but with no extension, fighting has resumed amid persistent skepticism over any future peace gestures.
