Gaza Girl Rescued Alive from Morgue After Being Mistakenly Declared Dead

GAZA โ€“ A 12-year-old Gaza Girl, Raghad Al-Assar, miraculously survived eight hours inside a mortuary refrigerator after being mistakenly pronounced dead. The incident occurred following an Israeli bombardment on her home in Nuseirat.

Raghad told Al Jazeera that she was inside her house when Israeli drones and aircraft struck. Two of her sisters were killed, and several other family members were critically injured. Raghad herself was severely wounded and taken to a hospital, where she was wrongly declared dead. She was then transferred to the mortuary while still unconscious.

She was discovered alive when a man searching for a relative noticed her fingers moving. Hospital staff immediately removed her from the mortuary. โ€œI was in a coma for two weeks. My family told me I had been in the morgue refrigerator for eight hours,โ€ Raghad said.

Her elder sister remains in critical condition, suffering from severe burns, deep wounds, and internal injuries that have left her unable to see. Raghadโ€™s father, who was not at home during the attack, rushed to the hospital after learning of the incident. He discovered that five of his daughters were injured and two had been martyred.

Raghadโ€™s father described her condition as deeply traumatized. โ€œShe faints while walking. The ordeal has severely affected her mental health,โ€ he said. Raghad herself shared her struggle to cope with the memories, stating, โ€œI donโ€™t like to hear someone describe it, I donโ€™t like to remember what I went through.โ€

The family is now seeking medical treatment abroad for Raghad and her injured sisters. The Gaza Girl hopes to return to the normal life she had before the devastating events that shattered her family.

This harrowing incident has drawn international attention, highlighting the human cost of the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Raghadโ€™s survival has been described as a miracle by local authorities and humanitarian organizations working in the region.
