Global Protests Erupt After Israel Blocks Gaza Aid Flotilla

Protests have erupted worldwide after Israeli forces intercepted the Global Samoud Flotilla, a Gaza-bound mission carrying humanitarian aid. Demonstrations have spread to several world capitals, including Mexico City, BogotΓ‘, Buenos Aires, Madrid, and other cities, as anger grows over the detention of activists.

In Buenos Aires, Argentina, large crowds demanded the release of Celeste Fierro, a city legislator-elect with the Workers’ Socialist Movement. Fierro was aboard the Adara ship, one of the vessels intercepted by Israeli naval forces. Speaking at the protest, Sergio Garcia urged Argentina’s Foreign Ministry to ensure her safe return, highlighting the difficult conditions faced by those detained.

According to flotilla spokesperson Saif Abukeshek, Israeli forces intercepted 13 vessels, detaining more than 201 participants from 37 countries. The detained included 30 activists from Spain, 22 from Italy, 21 from TΓΌrkiye, and 12 from Malaysia.

Despite the arrests, Abukeshek emphasized that the mission continues, with nearly 30 vessels still heading toward Gaza. He described the activists as determined and motivated to break the siege.

The Global Samoud Flotilla released a statement vowing to continue its mission. β€œWe continue on our mission to break the siege and open a humanitarian corridor,” the group said. Originally, around 40 boats set sail, and while 13 were intercepted, nearly 30 ships remain just 85 kilometers from Gaza’s coast.

Global protests have since expanded across Europe and the Middle East. Demonstrators marched in Italy, Greece, Germany, Brussels, and Tunisia.

In TΓΌrkiye, crowds gathered outside U.S. and Israeli embassies to condemn the naval raids. Activists worldwide argue that the interception was not only an attack on humanitarian aid but also on international solidarity with Palestinians under siege in Gaza.
