Hezbollah Secretary-General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah was reported killed in an Israeli strike, according to a statement from the Resistance Movement shared by Iran’s News Agency on Saturday afternoon. Earlier, the Israeli military announced that they had targeted Nasrallah in an airstrike on Hezbollah’s central headquarters in the southern suburbs of Beirut the day before.

However, Reuters was unable to obtain an immediate response from Hezbollah officials regarding the Israeli military’s claim. While Hezbollah has not yet released an official statement on Nasrallah’s status, a source close to the group indicated that he was still alive, and Iran’s Tasnim news agency reported that he was safe. A senior Iranian security official confirmed that Tehran was investigating his condition.

Under Nasrallah’s leadership for 32 years, Hezbollah has evolved into a significant regional force, extending Iran’s influence across the Middle East. His death would represent a substantial loss for Hezbollah and Iran, as the group was founded by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards in 1982. Israeli military spokesperson Avichay Adraee stated that the military “eliminated Hassan Nasrallah, leader of the Hezbollah terrorist organization,” and noted that another top Hezbollah figure, Ali Karaki, was also killed.

The Israeli military declared that Nasrallah would no longer be able to “terrorize the world.” The airstrike on Hezbollah’s command center, followed by additional strikes on Saturday, has heightened tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, raising fears of a wider regional conflict.

Adraee’s statement, shared in Arabic, claimed that Israel had targeted Hezbollah’s underground headquarters while its leadership coordinated terrorist activities against Israeli citizens.

After Friday’s attack, a source close to Hezbollah mentioned that Nasrallah was unreachable, but initial reports indicated he was alive and safe, with Tehran seeking confirmation on his status.

Israel continued its military actions with further airstrikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs and other regions of Lebanon on Saturday.
