Indian YouTuber Sets Studio on Fire After Struggling to Gain Followers

An Indian YouTuber reportedly set his home studio ablaze after struggling to gain followers, local media said. The incident occurred in Garhwa district, Jharkhand, on Saturday night.

The 27-year-old YouTuber, Vidhayak Prajapati, built a modern studio inside his residence for film editing and digital work. Neighbours said he had sold ancestral land to construct the studio, hoping to achieve YouTube stardom. However, after months without gaining followers, he reportedly fell into depression.

On Saturday evening, Prajapati locked himself inside the studio and set it on fire. Smoke quickly filled the house, alarming his family. Neighbours immediately contacted the police. Authorities and locals managed to rescue his family safely.

The fire destroyed equipment worth over one million Indian rupees. Despite the destruction, Prajapati allegedly fled by jumping over the rear wall. His relatives located him on Sunday morning. He is currently receiving medical treatment for mental health concerns.

Residents noted that the YouTuber had been withdrawn for the past week. Experts say the incident highlights the pressures faced by online content creators. Many aspiring YouTubers invest heavily in equipment and personal resources, often tying self-worth to subscriber counts.

Police have confirmed that an investigation is underway. Officials are also looking into the YouTuber’s mental health support and whether further preventive measures could have helped avoid the tragedy.

Neighbours praised the quick response of local police and community members, which prevented a worse outcome. The family remains shaken but is reported to be safe.

This case serves as a reminder of the emotional and psychological challenges associated with online fame. Mental health professionals emphasize the importance of support networks for YouTubers facing career setbacks.

Prajapati’s story has drawn attention across India, sparking discussions about online pressures and the responsibilities of social media platforms toward content creators. Authorities urge families and communities to remain vigilant when individuals show signs of extreme stress.
