Iran has released new figures on casualties from its recent war with the United States and Israel. Officials say the conflict has caused thousands of deaths across the country.
The state-run Foundation of Martyrs and Veterans Affairs confirmed that 3,468 dead were recorded during the war. The announcement was made on Saturday. It comes during a temporary ceasefire in the ongoing conflict.
Foundation head Ahmad Mousavi shared the update through Iranโs ISNA news agency. He stated that 3,468 dead were officially classified as โmartyrsโ of the recent conflict.
The war began in late February after joint US-Israeli strikes targeted sites in Tehran. Since then, fighting has caused widespread destruction and rising casualties.
Earlier figures showed slightly different totals. On April 12, Iranโs Legal Medicine Organization reported 3,375 deaths. The new data raises the official number again to 3,468 dead.
International monitoring groups have also reported different estimates. The US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) said at least 3,636 people were killed. Their report was published on April 7.
HRANA added that the victims include civilians, military personnel, and unidentified cases. They reported 1,701 civilian deaths, including at least 254 children. They also counted 1,221 military deaths and 714 unclassified cases.
Despite these reports, independent verification remains difficult. Restrictions in conflict areas limit access for international media and observers. AFP also noted that it cannot independently confirm casualty numbers in Iran.
Iranian officials continue to update figures as assessments progress. However, differences between reports highlight the uncertainty surrounding the total death toll.
The official statement confirming 3,468 dead has intensified global attention on the humanitarian impact of the war. It also reflects the scale of destruction caused during recent military operations.
The ongoing ceasefire has temporarily reduced fighting. However, tensions remain high as diplomatic efforts continue.
Analysts say the conflicting figures show the challenges of reporting in active conflict zones. Accurate data collection remains limited due to security conditions.
As the situation develops, more updates are expected. For now, Iran maintains that 3,468 dead is the latest official casualty count from the war.
