Iran Warns Against US Strikes, Vows Strong Response

TEHRAN, February 23, 2026 — Iran warned Monday that any US attack, including limited strikes, would be considered an “act of aggression” and would provoke a firm response. The statement came after US President Donald Trump said he was considering a limited strike on Iran if negotiations failed.

Speaking at a briefing, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said, “An act of aggression would be regarded as an act of aggression. Any state would react to an act of aggression as part of its inherent right of self-defense. That is what we would do.” He stressed there is no such thing as a “limited strike” in Tehran’s view.

President Trump had indicated on Friday that the United States might launch a limited strike if Iran did not reach an agreement. “I guess I can say I am considering that,” he said during a press briefing.

The warning comes amid a second round of indirect talks between the United States and Iran in Switzerland, mediated by Oman. These talks are part of ongoing efforts to resolve tensions following a major US military build-up in the region. Both countries have confirmed further talks scheduled for Thursday.

Iran’s delegation is led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, while the United States is represented by envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. Trump’s team has expressed frustration over why Iran has not “capitulated” in the face of US military pressure. Baqaei responded by emphasizing that Iranians have never surrendered throughout history.

Analysts say the escalation in rhetoric reflects deep mistrust between Washington and Tehran. Any US strike could trigger serious regional instability, given Iran’s strategic influence in the Middle East. Observers are urging both sides to continue negotiations and avoid military confrontation.
