Israel Deports Greta Thunberg and 170 Other Activists to Greece and Slovakia

Israel Deports Greta Thunberg, 170 Activists

Israel has deported climate activist Greta Thunberg and 170 other activists to Greece and Slovakia after they participated in pro-Palestinian demonstrations calling for an end to the Gaza conflict. The move came after Israeli authorities accused the group of violating public order and entering restricted areas during their protests.

According to official reports, the Israeli police detained the activists earlier this week during a protest in Tel Aviv and later transferred them to a detention facility near Ben Gurion Airport. After a brief investigation, officials announced that Greta Thunberg and 170 other activists would be deported to Greece and Slovakia as part of a coordinated decision with foreign embassies.

The Israeli Interior Ministry confirmed the deportations, stating that the activists’ presence had become β€œa matter of public disruption.” Authorities further claimed that the protests, organized under the banner of international solidarity with Gaza, had endangered public safety. However, the activists denied the allegations, saying their demonstrations were peaceful and focused on human rights.

Greta Thunberg, known globally for her environmental activism, had joined other international campaigners to demand an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. Before her deportation, Thunberg posted on social media condemning Israel’s actions, stating, β€œPeaceful activism is not a crime. Our voices for justice will not be silenced.”

Human rights organizations criticized Israel’s decision, saying the deportation of Greta Thunberg and 170 other activists to Greece and Slovakia represented a suppression of free expression. Amnesty International urged Israel to β€œrespect the right to peaceful protest and reconsider its punitive stance.”

The incident adds to growing tensions between Israel and international activists over the ongoing Gaza war. As Israel continues to face global scrutiny, the deportation of Greta Thunberg and 170 other activists to Greece and Slovakia has drawn worldwide attention, highlighting the intersection of environmental and human rights advocacy in conflict zones.
