ISLAMABAD – Pakistan has strongly condemned Israel’s recognition of Somaliland, calling it a violation of Somalia’s sovereignty. Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said the move directly targets Somalia’s internationally recognised Borders. He made the remarks at an emergency meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.
Addressing OIC foreign ministers, Dar said Pakistan fully supports Somalia’s unity and territorial integrity. He described Israel’s decision and diplomatic engagement with Somaliland as illegal. He added that such actions have no standing under international law.
Dar said the visit of the Israeli foreign minister to Somaliland was alarming. He stated that it amounts to a direct attack on Somalia’s recognised Borders. Pakistan, he said, rejects any attempt to alter established boundaries through unilateral actions.
The foreign minister stressed that sovereignty and territorial integrity are core principles of international law. He said no country has the right to change another state’s borders. Any such attempt, he added, will have no legal or political impact.
Dar warned that Israel’s move could destabilise the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region. He said Pakistan and other OIC members have issued a joint rejection. He praised the Somali people and security forces for their sacrifices.
He also said the action could weaken global efforts against terrorism. Pakistan has raised the issue at the United Nations. Officials said the move violates the UN Charter and international norms.
Dar noted that Somalia has made progress in national reconciliation. He said constitutional reforms and stronger institutions are vital for stability. He stressed that democratic elections reflect real development.
He also rejected any form of forced displacement. Dar said such actions violate international law and human rights. He added that Somalia’s development must not be disrupted.
On Palestine, Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for self-determination. He called for an end to the Gaza war. He urged the delivery of humanitarian aid with OIC support.
OIC Secretary General Hissein Brahim Taha also backed Somalia’s sovereignty. He said Israel’s move violates international law and Somalia’s Borders. Saudi Arabia echoed similar views and called for regional dialogue.
Palestinian officials supported Somalia’s UN-recognised borders. Somalia’s foreign minister said no country can use Somali land. Turkey also rejected Israel’s action and backed Somalia’s unity.
