Gazaโs civil defence agency reported that Israeli attacks on Thursday killed at least 13 people, including five children, despite a fragile ceasefire.
A drone strike in southern Gaza hit a tent sheltering displaced people, killing four, including three children, agency spokesman Mahmud Bassal told AFP.
In northern Gaza, an 11-year-old girl died near the Jabalia refugee camp, and another strike on a school killed one person. A drone attack near Khan Yunis in the south also killed a man. Two more Palestinians, including a child, were killed in other Israeli attacks, the agency said.
Later on Thursday evening, four additional people died in an Israeli air strike targeting a house in eastern Gaza City. Rescue teams are searching for several people reported missing after the strike. โThe death toll has risen to 13 as a result of Israeli strikes on the Gaza Strip since this morning, in a clear violation of the ceasefire agreement,โ Bassal added.
Earlier, the Israeli military stated that a projectile was launched โfrom the area of Gaza City toward Israelโ but fell inside the Gaza Strip. โShortly after, the military precisely struck the launch point,โ it said.
Since October 10, a US-mediated truce has largely halted fighting between Israeli forces and Hamas. However, both sides have reported frequent ceasefire violations. Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem said the attacks on Thursday โconfirm the Israeli occupationโs renunciation of its commitment to the ceasefire.โ
According to Gazaโs health ministry, Israeli attacks have killed at least 425 Palestinians since the truce took effect. On November 22, Israeli strikes killed at least 21 people, one of the deadliest single days since the ceasefire.
During the same period, the Israeli military reported that militants have killed three Israeli soldiers. The situation highlights the fragile nature of the ceasefire and ongoing tensions in the region.
