Iranian state media reported that Mansoureh Khojasteh Bagherzadeh, the wife of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has died after suffering injuries in a recent Airstrike in Tehran.
According to Iranian reports, Bagherzadeh had been in a coma since Saturday after the Airstrike struck the family’s residence in central Tehran. The attack also killed Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several other members of his family.
Iranian news agencies, including Tasnim, confirmed her death on Monday. Officials said she died two days after the initial Airstrike that targeted the compound.
Reports stated that the large-scale Airstrike caused significant damage to the residence and surrounding areas. Iranian authorities described the attack as a major escalation in the ongoing conflict.
Iranian officials confirmed that Khamenei, who served as the country’s Supreme Leader since 1989, was killed during the same Airstrike. The attack also claimed the lives of several close relatives who were present at the location.
According to international and Iranian media reports, those killed included members of Khamenei’s immediate family. The incident has been described as a major blow to Iran’s leadership structure.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was 86 years old at the time of his death. As Supreme Leader, he held the highest authority in Iran and served as commander-in-chief of the armed forces.
Bagherzadeh, believed to have been around 78 or 79, was known for maintaining a private life. Despite her husband’s prominent role in politics, she rarely appeared in public or media.
The couple married in the mid-1960s and had four sons and two daughters together. Over the decades, Bagherzadeh avoided political activity and did not hold any official government position.
In a rare interview with Iranian media in 2011, she described her role as supporting her husband at home. She said her main responsibility was to maintain a calm environment for family life.
Following the deaths, Iranian authorities announced a national mourning period lasting 40 days. A seven-day nationwide holiday has also been declared for funeral ceremonies and public mourning.
Meanwhile, military tensions in the region continue to increase. The conflict has spread across several parts of the Middle East as military operations continue.
Reports indicate that Israel has also launched attacks on Hezbollah positions in Lebanon. Lebanese health officials said the strikes resulted in casualties and injuries.
Regional security experts warn that the situation remains highly unstable. The recent Airstrike and its consequences have further raised concerns about wider conflict in the region.
