New Year Holiday Announced in Kuwait For January 1, 2026

Kuwait announces a three-day New Year holiday for public sector employees, giving them a relaxed start to 2026. The Civil Service Bureau confirmed that work will be suspended across all ministries, government agencies, public bodies, and institutions on Thursday, January 1, 2026.

Official working hours will resume on Sunday, January 4, 2026. However, entities with essential operational requirements, including healthcare, utilities, and other critical sectors, will determine holiday schedules as needed to maintain services.

The Cabinet approved this decision during its weekly meeting, ensuring that public sector employees can enjoy a long weekend at the beginning of the year. This also allows residents time to plan travel, personal events, and business activities. Private sector companies are encouraged to align their schedules with the government holiday, though employees are advised to check with their HR departments for confirmation.

In addition to the New Year holiday, Kuwait announces extended leave for Isra and Mi’raj, falling on Friday, January 16, 2026. Since Friday is already a public holiday, the break will extend through Saturday, January 17, with Sunday, January 18 designated as an alternative day off. Normal working hours will resume on Monday, January 19, 2026.

The holiday plan reflects a focus on convenience and clarity for both employees and employers. With well-spaced breaks early in the year, families can enjoy time off, while businesses can plan around government schedules.

Officials emphasized that these arrangements aim to balance public interest and operational needs. Citizens and residents are advised to stay updated on any sector-specific schedules, especially in critical areas where services remain uninterrupted.

With these announcements, Kuwait announces a structured and employee-friendly start to 2026, promoting both relaxation and efficiency at the beginning of the year.
