Authorities in Kuwait have issued a fresh warning about the dangers of jaywalking. The alert was released during Gulf Traffic Week activities across the country.
Officials in Kuwait said careless road crossing has become a growing safety concern. They stressed that even a few seconds of negligence can lead to serious accidents.
The General Directorate of Traffic in Kuwait highlighted that pedestrians crossing from non-designated areas are putting their lives at risk. They also warned that such actions create danger for drivers and other road users.
According to traffic rules, pedestrians must use marked crossings. Violating this rule can result in financial penalties. Authorities explained that enforcement is being strengthened in busy urban areas.
Pedestrians caught breaking the rule may face a reconciliation fine of 20 Kuwaiti dinars. In cases where fines are not settled, legal action may follow. Court penalties can range between 45 and 75 dinars.
Traffic officials in Kuwait noted that the issue has become more visible in crowded districts. The problem is especially common during peak evening hours. Many pedestrians rush across roads while distracted by mobile phones.
Authorities urged residents to remain alert before crossing any street. They advised people to avoid using mobile phones while walking near traffic. Drivers should also be fully stopped before pedestrians attempt to cross.
Officials also emphasized the importance of using designated pedestrian crossings. They said compliance is still low in several areas despite repeated awareness campaigns.
The warning is part of Kuwaitโs ongoing road safety efforts under the โCross Safelyโ campaign. The campaign aims to reduce accidents and improve public awareness across all regions.
Authorities in Kuwait believe stronger enforcement and public cooperation are both necessary. They say road safety depends on responsible behavior from both drivers and pedestrians.
