Two donkeys from Lincolnshire, England, have earned a place in the Guinness World Records 2026 for their remarkable features. Derrick and Bambou, both residents of the Radcliffe Donkey Sanctuary in Huttoft, now hold the titles of the tallest living donkey and the longest ears ever recorded on a donkey.
Derrick, a member of the American Mammoth Jackstock breed, stands an impressive 167 cm (5 ft 5 in) tall. This makes him nearly 20 cm taller than the average donkey of his breed. His record-breaking height surpasses that of the previous Guinness World Records holder from Texas, setting a new global standard for donkeys.
Living alongside Derrick is Bambou, a Poitou donkey with exceptionally long ears measuring 35 cm (1 ft 1 in). His fluffy and distinctive ears have made him a favorite among visitors to the sanctuary. Staff say his gentle personality and unique appearance attract plenty of attention.
Founded in 1999 by Tracy and Steve Garton, the Radcliffe Donkey Sanctuary provides a safe home for rescued animals, including donkeys, mules, and even zebra hybrids. The non-profit organization depends on donations and adoption programs to fund food, veterinary care, and shelter maintenance.
Sanctuary staff expressed pride and excitement over having two Guinness World Records 2026 holders in their care. They hope this global recognition will boost awareness about animal welfare and inspire more people to visit or support the sanctuary.
βSeeing our donkeys in the Guinness World Records book is fantastic,β the team said. βWeβre thrilled to share their story and welcome visitors who want to meet our record holders.β
The achievement not only celebrates the uniqueness of Derrick and Bambou but also highlights the sanctuaryβs ongoing efforts to protect and care for animals in need.
