LSE Opens Doctoral Fellowship Opportunity for Pakistani Researchers

The South Asia Centre at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) has invited applications for its Post-Doctoral Visiting Fellowship for Pakistani researchers for the 2027–28 academic year. The program offers an opportunity for scholars to conduct short-term research in the United Kingdom.

The fellowship is being offered in partnership with the Charles Wallace Pakistan Trust and the British Council in Pakistan. Under the program, one selected Doctoral researcher will spend up to eight weeks at LSE in London carrying out post-doctoral research activities.

According to the announcement, the fellowship includes a monthly stipend of £1,600. In addition, the selected fellow will receive up to £1,250 to cover travel-related expenses. These expenses may include airfare, visa fees, and other approved costs associated with the research visit.

The research stay will take place between September and June. The exact timing of the visit will be decided through consultation between the selected candidate and the South Asia Centre.

The application deadline is June 30, 2027, at 5:00 pm UK time. Interested candidates must submit their applications through email. Late applications will not be accepted for consideration.

To qualify for the Doctoral fellowship, applicants must be Pakistani citizens and residents of Pakistan at the time of application. Candidates must also hold a valid passport and have completed a PhD in Pakistan studies from a recognized university.

The fellowship is open to scholars between the ages of 30 and 50 as of June 30, 2027. Research proposals in social sciences and humanities are eligible for consideration. Preference will be given to interdisciplinary research projects and studies that examine Pakistan in a broader South Asian context.

Applicants are required to submit several documents as part of the application process. These include a completed application form, an updated curriculum vitae, a research proposal, one published article or PhD chapter, and a copy of their passport.

The research proposal should be no longer than three A4 pages. It must clearly explain the project title, research methodology, expected outcomes, and materials that will be consulted in UK libraries.

Applications will be reviewed by a committee at the South Asia Centre. A shortlist of candidates will be prepared before the final selection is made. Only one fellow will be chosen for each academic year.

Successful candidates will receive an official invitation letter from LSE to support their UK visa application. Fellows will also be required to return to Pakistan after completing their research visit.
