Saudi Arabia issued emergency alerts for Makkah, Jeddah and Taif on Tuesday amid heightened security concerns.
The warnings informed residents and visitors about a “potential danger” following escalating attacks by Yemen’s Houthi group.
Saudi authorities delivered the alerts through the National Early Warning Platform for Emergencies.
The Saudi Civil Defense advised people to remain calm and immediately follow official safety instructions. Authorities initially did not provide specific details about the nature of the potential danger.
The warnings were later lifted after officials said the danger had passed in Makkah.
Residents Told to Seek Safe Shelter
During the alert, residents and visitors were advised to move to the nearest safe location.
Authorities recommended staying inside buildings and using interior rooms away from windows where possible.
People were also advised to avoid open spaces, balconies and rooftops during the warning period.
Those already outdoors were instructed to enter the nearest building.
If that was not possible, they were advised to shelter behind a solid barrier. Motorists who received the emergency warning were told to safely pull over.
Drivers were advised to avoid stopping near bridges and high-rise buildings. The instructions were issued as precautionary measures while authorities assessed the potential threat.
Alerts Follow Houthi Strikes
The emergency warnings followed Strikes targeting several Saudi cities.
According to Saudi authorities, Houthi forces launched ballistic missiles and drones toward multiple locations.
The targeted cities included Taif, Khamis Mushait and Abha. Saudi authorities said 13 civilians were injured during Monday’s attacks.
Seven homes and two vehicles were also damaged. The incidents came amid an escalation involving the Houthi group and Saudi Arabia.
The subsequent emergency alerts prompted authorities to issue detailed safety guidance for residents and visitors.
Makkah Alert Later Lifted
Saudi Civil Defense later announced that the potential danger in Makkah had passed.
However, authorities continued urging residents to follow information from official sources.
The latest warning was the first such alert for Makkah since the recent escalation, according to Saudi Civil Defense.
The inclusion of Makkah drew particular attention because the city receives large numbers of residents, pilgrims and visitors.
Emergency alerts were also issued for Jeddah and Taif during the security situation.
The latest Strikes highlight the increased use of early-warning systems during periods of regional tension.
