A 32-year-old man has been charged with multiple counts of attempted murder following a violent knife attack on a London-bound train, British Transport Police (BTP) confirmed on Monday.
The suspect, identified as Anthony Williams from Peterborough in central England, faces 10 counts of attempted murder, one count of actual bodily harm, and one count of possessing a knife in connection with the incident that occurred on Saturday evening.
According to police, the attack took place on a train traveling toward London, leaving several passengers injured and prompting a major emergency response. Williams was also charged with an additional count of attempted murder and another possession of a knife charge related to a separate incident in London on the same day.
In a statement, Tracy Easton of the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) confirmed that investigators reviewed a significant amount of material before bringing charges. “This case involved a huge volume of evidence, including CCTV footage,” she said. “We know the devastating impact the events on Saturday’s train have had and how the incident shocked the entire country. Our thoughts remain with all those affected.”
The British Transport Police said officers worked swiftly to arrest the suspect after receiving multiple reports of a man attacking passengers with a knife. Emergency crews provided treatment to the injured on board and at nearby hospitals.
Authorities have not released specific details about the victims, though none of the injuries are believed to be life-threatening. Additional police patrols have been deployed across train services to reassure passengers and ensure public safety.
The suspect remains in custody and is expected to appear in court later this week. Investigations into both incidents are ongoing, with officers continuing to collect witness statements and review security footage.
