Man with Eel in Abdomen Shocks Doctors in China

A shocking medical case in China left surgeons stunned when they discovered a live eel inside a man’s abdominal cavity.

The 33-year-old patient from Hunan province arrived at the First Affiliated Hospital of Hunan Medical University with severe abdominal pain, sweating, and a pale face. A CT scan revealed a strange object that had punctured his stomach and moved into his abdomen.

Doctors performed emergency laparoscopic surgery and found a live, foot-long eel swimming among the man’s organs. The man with eel in abdomen was diagnosed with a serious infection risk, prompting immediate surgical action.

The eel had pierced the intestinal wall and was freely moving inside the abdominal cavity. Surgeons carefully removed the eel using clamp-like tools. They then stitched the hole in the man’s colon and flushed his abdomen with saline to prevent infection.

Medical staff said the patient responded well to treatment and was later discharged from the hospital. However, no official comment was made about the fate of the eel.

The eel, a burrowing aquatic animal, is commonly found in muddy rivers, ponds, and paddy fields. It is known to dig through soft surfaces, which may explain how it entered the body — though the exact method remains unclear.

Speculation quickly spread online, with commenters joking about how the eel got inside. “Everyone knows how it got in,” said one. Another added, “Maybe he sat on it by accident.”

While the man with eel in abdomen has recovered, the bizarre case has sparked global curiosity and concern.
