Myanmarโs military junta has announced the arrest of nearly 1,600 foreigners during raids on alleged online scam hubs across the country.
Officials claimed the raids targeted operations involved in financial fraud, online scams, and cybercrime activities affecting international victims.
Authorities said the suspects were detained for questioning and that investigations are ongoing to dismantle the networks.
Many of the arrested individuals are reportedly from Southeast Asia, China, and other neighboring countries.
Human rights groups have raised concerns about the treatment of the detainees and the transparency of the judicial process in Myanmar.
Observers say the crackdown is part of the juntaโs broader campaign to assert control over illegal online operations amid political instability.
