Kim Kardashian Questions Moon Landing, NASA Responds

The U.S. space agency NASA has firmly rejected reality TV star Kim Kardashian’s claim that the 1969 Apollo 11 Moon landing was faked — reigniting a decades-old conspiracy theory that refuses to die.

NASA’s acting administrator Sean Duffy responded directly to Kardashian on social media, writing: “Yes, we’ve been to the Moon before… six times!” He also highlighted the agency’s upcoming Artemis program, aimed at returning astronauts to the Moon under U.S. leadership.

Kardashian’s Controversial Comments

The controversy began during the latest episode of The Kardashians, where Kardashian told actress Sarah Paulson that she believes the Moon landing “didn’t happen.” She even showed Paulson an online interview supposedly featuring astronaut Buzz Aldrin, misquoting him as saying the Apollo 11 mission “didn’t happen.”

It remains unclear which article or source Kardashian was referring to, and no credible record of Aldrin ever making such remarks exists.

Kardashian later doubled down during the episode, saying she often “centres conspiracies” and has watched several videos that made her question the authenticity of the Moon landing.

NASA’s Response and Invitation

Following the broadcast, Duffy tagged Kardashian on X (formerly Twitter), publicly refuting her claims. He emphasized NASA’s six successful Moon landings and invited her to witness science firsthand by attending the Artemis mission launch at the Kennedy Space Center.

Duffy added, “We won the last space race and we will win this one too,” referring to the U.S. effort to return to lunar exploration under renewed government backing.

Kardashian later responded with a tongue-in-cheek comment, asking, “Wait… what’s the tea on 3I/Atlas?!?!!!!!!!?????” — referencing an interstellar comet astronomers recently identified as possibly the oldest ever observed.

Experts Reaffirm the Facts

Scientists and space historians have long dismissed Moon landing hoaxes as baseless. The Institute of Physics reaffirmed that “every single argument claiming that NASA faked the Moon landings has been discredited.”

The Apollo 11 mission, which saw Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin take humanity’s first steps on the lunar surface in July 1969, remains one of history’s most extensively documented scientific achievements — backed by video footage, rock samples, telemetry data, and testimonies from thousands of engineers and astronauts.

Despite overwhelming evidence, conspiracy theories surrounding the event continue to spread, especially on social media platforms where misinformation can thrive.

Looking Ahead

NASA remains focused on the Artemis program, which aims to land the next generation of astronauts — including the first woman and person of color — on the Moon in the coming years. The agency hopes renewed exploration will not only advance space science but also inspire a new era of curiosity grounded in fact, not fiction.
