Islamabad: Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif on Wednesday accused Netanyahu of attacking Iran to divert global attention from Gaza.
He shared his remarks on X amid rising tensions in the Middle East. The statement came after reports of US-Israeli strikes in Iran. These strikes reportedly led to the assassination of Ali Khamenei.
According to Asif, Netanyahu launched the attack to shift international focus. He said global media is now concentrating on Iran instead of Gaza. This, he claimed, gives Netanyahu more room to act in Gaza and the West Bank.
Asif alleged that Netanyahu is pursuing what he described as a genocidal agenda. He said the change in headlines benefits Netanyahu politically. The minister added that the move helps reduce scrutiny over Israeli actions in Palestinian territories.
In his statement, Asif criticized Netanyahu’s leadership style. He said Netanyahu’s personal ambitions have worsened the crisis in the region. He described the situation in Palestine and the wider Middle East as a historic tragedy.
A day earlier, Asif had raised further concerns about the regional impact of the Iran conflict. He claimed the broader strategy behind the war could extend beyond Iran. According to him, the objective includes expanding Israel’s influence closer to Pakistan’s borders.
He warned that such developments could threaten Pakistan’s security interests. Asif said Western and allied powers may have strategic goals in the region. He suggested these goals align with Israeli interests.
The defence minister also criticized Zionism in strong terms. He called it a threat to humanity. He said that since the creation of Israel on Palestinian land, many conflicts in the Islamic world have been linked to Zionist ideology.
Asif further claimed that Zionism has influenced the global economic system for decades. He alleged that major world powers are under its pressure.
