North Korea Fires Multiple Missiles in Latest Military Escalation Near East Coast

SEOUL โ€“ North Korea fires at least multiple ballistic missiles toward the sea off its east coast, South Korea and Japan confirmed on Sunday. The launch marks another escalation in the countryโ€™s growing missile activity.

Officials said North Korea fires at least several missiles near the coastal city of Sinpo at around 6:10 a.m. local time. The missiles traveled toward the eastern sea area, according to South Korean military reports.

This is the seventh ballistic missile test carried out by Pyongyang this year. It is also the fourth launch recorded in April alone. The repeated activity shows a continued push to strengthen military capabilities.

South Koreaโ€™s presidential office held an emergency security meeting after the incident. Authorities reviewed the situation and discussed possible responses. Officials remain on high alert due to repeated launches.

Japan also confirmed the launch. It stated that the missiles likely landed near the east coast of the Korean Peninsula. There was no report of any impact inside Japanโ€™s exclusive economic zone.

International experts say North Korea fires at least several missiles during a period of global focus on other conflicts. Analysts believe this creates an opportunity for Pyongyang to advance its missile and nuclear programs.

A professor at Kyungnam University, Lim Eul-chul, said the current global situation may benefit North Korea. He suggested that attention on other regions could allow it to expand its weapons development.

The launches violate United Nations Security Council resolutions. These resolutions ban North Koreaโ€™s ballistic missile activities. However, Pyongyang continues to reject the restrictions. It argues that its actions are necessary for national defense.

The International Atomic Energy Agency recently warned about North Koreaโ€™s nuclear progress. Agency chief Rafael Grossi said the country may have expanded its uranium enrichment capacity. He also described the developments as โ€œvery serious.โ€

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has previously stated that the countryโ€™s nuclear status is irreversible. He emphasized strengthening a self-defensive nuclear deterrent as essential for national security.

The missile launches come ahead of a planned international summit involving major global powers. Leaders are expected to discuss regional security, including North Koreaโ€™s growing weapons program.
