NYT Reports Ismail Haniyeh Was Killed By an Explosive Device In Tehran Guesthouse

Ismail Haniyeh, a leading figure in Hamas, was killed by an explosive device while staying in a guesthouse in Tehran, as reported by the New York Times. The explosives were reportedly planted around two months before the incident.

The explosion happened around 2 a.m. local time after Haniyeh’s presence at the guesthouse was confirmed. Located within the Neshat compound in northern Tehran, the guesthouse was under the protection of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards.

The remotely triggered blast caused significant damage, including shattered windows and a partially collapsed exterior wall.

According to the NYT, which cited seven officials, including two Iranians and one American, the meticulous planning involved in the attack was evident, with the explosives concealed in the guesthouse well in advance.

Despite the extensive impact of the explosion, the building experienced minimal damage beyond the immediate effects, suggesting it was not a missile strike.

The NYT also highlighted the detailed planning required to hide the bomb for months before it was detonated.
