Olympic Opening Ceremony Dancers Cancel Planned Strike Action

Hundreds of dancers threatening to disrupt the Olympic Opening Ceremony over pay have canceled their strike after reaching an agreement with Paris 2024, the FSA-CGT union announced. The union received a “final offer” from Paris 2024 and employers, which includes increased payment for broadcasting rights for all dancers.

On Monday, around 220 dancers halted a rehearsal along the River Seine to protest pay and housing disparities. Union representative Lucie Sorin previously indicated that the ceremony was at risk due to the protest and possible strike by the dancers.

The union has agreed to accept the proposal and lift the strike notice for the ceremony on July 26, though they noted it was not a complete victory. The Opening Ceremony, set on the River Seine, will be attended by 104,000 spectators with an additional 220,000 on surrounding roadways.
