The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has rejected recent media claims about changes in the national teamβs leadership. The board termed the reports βbaseless and unfounded.β
In its official statement, the PCB clarified that there was no consideration of appointing Salman Ali Agha as Pakistanβs new ODI captain in place of Mohammad Rizwan. Similarly, the board denied rumors that Saud Shakeel would replace Shan Masood as Test captain.
The PCB also confirmed that the matter was never discussed by the selection committee. It further stated that no playerβs central contract category has been revised.
Earlier reports suggested changes
Several media outlets earlier reported that the PCB was exploring new captaincy options across different formats. Some reports claimed that consultations were held at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore regarding future leadership roles.
According to those reports, Salman Ali Agha was considered for the ODI captaincy, while Saud Shakeel was tipped as a frontrunner for the Test side. Sources even suggested that Saudβs central contract might be upgraded to Category B if appointed captain.
Board dismisses speculation
The PCB has now firmly denied all such claims, stressing that no leadership changes are being considered at present. The board also reassured players and fans that decisions regarding captaincy or contracts will only be made transparently and officially.
By issuing this clarification, the PCB has sought to end speculation and restore focus on the teamβs upcoming assignments.
