Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed sorrow over the loss of lives following a powerful Earthquake in Indonesia.
The prime minister conveyed condolences to Indonesia’s leadership, citizens and families affected by the disaster. In a post on X, Shehbaz said he was deeply saddened by the deaths and widespread destruction.
He extended condolences on behalf of the people and Government of Pakistan. His message was addressed to Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and the people of Indonesia.
Pakistan Expresses Solidarity With Indonesia
Shehbaz said Pakistan’s thoughts and prayers were with everyone affected by the disaster. He also prayed for the quick recovery of people injured in the Earthquake.
The prime minister expressed Pakistan’s solidarity with Indonesia during the difficult period. He said Pakistan stands alongside the people of Indonesia as they respond to the tragedy.
Shehbaz also wished strength and resilience to communities dealing with the impact of the disaster. Pakistan and Indonesia maintain close relations and have regularly expressed support during humanitarian emergencies.
Rescue Operations Continue After Earthquake
Meanwhile, rescue teams continued searching through debris for survivors on Saturday.
The powerful Earthquake struck off Indonesia’s eastern Flores island, causing casualties and widespread damage. According to disaster officials, at least 47 people were reported dead.
Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency, known as BNPB, raised the reported death toll from 40 later on Saturday.
Rescue official Fathur Rahman said around 50 people were injured following the disaster. The quake had a reported magnitude of 7.7.
Emergency teams continued operations in affected areas as authorities assessed the scale of the destruction. Rescuers searched damaged locations for people who may have been trapped under debris.
Indonesia Deals With Aftermath
Indonesia frequently experiences earthquakes because of its location in a highly active seismic region.
Strong earthquakes can cause serious damage, particularly in communities near the epicentre. Authorities are now focused on rescue operations and providing assistance to affected communities.
The latest disaster has also prompted messages of sympathy and support from Pakistan. Prime Minister Shehbaz’s statement reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for Indonesia during the emergency.
