PM’s Orders Lead to Suspension of Toll Tax Hike Across Pakistan

Islamabad, April 3, 2026 – The National Highway Authority (NHA) has withdrawn its recent notification on increasing toll plaza fees following the PM’s orders. The quarterly toll hike, originally scheduled for April 5, will not take effect.

Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan confirmed that the NHA acted on the PM’s orders to ease the financial burden on citizens. He emphasized that the current economic situation, including rising petrol and diesel prices, makes it difficult for people to bear additional costs.

“The prime minister has directed that no extra burden should fall on the public during these challenging times,” Abdul Aleem Khan said. He also issued a new notification officially suspending the toll tax increase for the fiscal year 2025–26.

The minister added that the government is committed to taking all possible measures to reduce public hardship. The suspension of the toll hike is part of broader efforts, under the PM’s orders, to provide relief amid rising transport and energy costs.

The NHA’s earlier notification, issued on April 1, had caused concern among commuters and transporters. However, acting on the PM’s orders, the authority promptly withdrew it, ensuring toll fees remain unchanged across all highways and motorways.

Analysts said the decision reflects the government’s responsive approach to economic pressures affecting citizens. By halting the toll tax increase, authorities aim to reduce daily commuting costs for drivers, transport operators, and long-distance travelers.

Citizens have welcomed the move, noting that the suspension provides immediate financial relief and aligns with ongoing measures to mitigate the impact of fuel price surges.
