Projectile Hits Iran’s Bushehr Nuclear Plant, No Damage Reported

Projectile Hits Iran’s Bushehr Nuclear Plant, No Damage Reported

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed that a projectile struck the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant in southwestern Iran on Tuesday evening. The agency reported that no damage occurred and no staff were injured.

According to the IAEA, the incident involved a single projectile hitting the premises of Iran’s only operational nuclear reactor. Officials said the plant continues to operate safely.

Rafael Grossi, head of the IAEA, urged restraint in the ongoing regional conflict. He warned that any attack near nuclear facilities could increase the risk of a serious accident. “We reiterate our call for careful action to avoid nuclear hazards,” Grossi said.

The Bushehr plant, which first connected to the grid in 2011, plays a key role in Iran’s civilian energy program. It is Iran’s sole operational nuclear power reactor.

The IAEA statement came amid rising tensions in the region. Iran remains under strict US sanctions, which were reimposed in 2018 after Washington withdrew from the nuclear deal. The deal had originally eased sanctions in exchange for limits on Iran’s nuclear activities.

Iran has repeatedly stated that its nuclear program is peaceful. The country denies any ambition to develop nuclear weapons. Experts say incidents like the projectile strike could increase international concerns about nuclear safety in conflict zones.

The IAEA continues to monitor the situation closely and is in communication with Iranian authorities to ensure the plant’s safety. Officials emphasized that emergency protocols were in place and fully operational.

While no injuries or damage were reported, the event underscores the potential risks of military activity near nuclear sites. International agencies continue to urge all parties to act cautiously to prevent escalation.
