Russia launched a massive drone and missile attack on Ukraineโs capital early Friday, killing four people and injuring dozens more, according to Ukrainian officials. The assault is being described as one of the most intense strikes on Kyiv in recent months.
President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said the attack involved hundreds of drones and multiple missiles, overwhelming air defenses across the city. Although many projectiles were intercepted, large amounts of falling debris caused fires and significant destruction in several districts.
Residential areas, schools, and energy facilities were among the sites damaged. At least 29 people, including two children and a pregnant woman, were reported injured. Emergency teams worked through the morning to extinguish fires and rescue trapped civilians.
The strike also disrupted essential services. Parts of Kyivโs heating system shut down, while power outages spread to other regions, including Odesa and Donetsk, as the national grid came under pressure.
Zelenskiy condemned the attack, calling it โdeliberately calculatedโ to inflict maximum civilian harm. Ukrainian officials vowed to respond by intensifying counter-strikes on Russian infrastructure.
The latest assault underscores the growing severity of the conflict as winter approaches, raising renewed concerns over civilian safety and the stability of Ukraineโs energy network.
