Hundreds of Swifties swarm German town Wiesbaden to celebrate Taylor Swift’s latest hit, “The Fate of Ophelia.” Fans gathered at a local museum exhibiting the painting believed to have inspired the music video for the chart-topping single.
Many arrived dressed as Ophelia, wearing white dresses with flowers in their hair, while others sparkled in outfits resembling Swift’s iconic stage looks. The museum hosted a special event for visitors to view Friedrich Heyser’s painting, which depicts Shakespeare’s tragic heroine, Ophelia, floating in a river before her death.
At the beginning of Swift’s video for “The Fate of Ophelia”—a track from her new album “The Life of a Showgirl”—the singer recreates the haunting scene from Heyser’s painting before the artwork appears to come alive. Since the song’s release last month, Swifties swarm German galleries and museums in excitement, eager to see the artwork in person.
“It’s amazing that this painting, which inspired Taylor Swift, is here in Wiesbaden,” said Corinna Greiner, a visitor attending with her daughter. The sold-out event drew around 200 fans, beginning with a lecture by a museum expert on the painting’s history. Soon after, the crowd danced and sang along as the hit song played throughout the hall.
Friedrich Heyser’s Ophelia painting, created around 1900, has been part of the Wiesbaden museum’s collection since 2019. Museum director Andreas Henning said the team was “very surprised” when the painting appeared in Swift’s video, adding that Swifties swarm German cities from across Europe to witness the artwork firsthand.
Although the museum has not heard directly from Taylor Swift or her team, fans are hopeful for a visit. Their chant echoed through the halls: “Taylor, come to Wiesbaden!”
