U.S. President Donald Trump says Israel has agreed to an “initial withdrawal line” for Gaza. He asserts this could lead to an immediate ceasefire once Hamas confirms the deal.
Trump posted a map and message on social media. The map outlines areas Israel would retain control of, including Rafah, the Philadelphi Corridor, and parts of northern Gaza. Under the proposed plan, Gaza City would remain encircled.
He stated that the ceasefire, hostage exchange, and prisoner release would begin “immediately” upon Hamas’s confirmation. He called for Hamas to respond quickly, warning against delay.
Israel’s military is preparing to implement the first phase. The Israeli army is expected to pause offensive operations and shift to a defensive posture for safe negotiations. Forces would redeploy to the agreed line.
The gesture forms part of Trump’s 20-point peace framework. That plan demands Hamas release hostages and depart from Gaza. It also calls for demilitarization and oversight by an international board.
Israel must maintain control over strategic zones during the transition. This includes border areas and parts of Gaza that would remain under IDF oversight. The map highlights a phased withdrawal approach rather than a full pullout.
Talks are set to resume in Egypt. Delegations from Israel and Hamas will meet with U.S. mediators. They are expected to finalize the deal’s technical details.
Critics note the plan still leaves many questions. Key points include how long Israel will stay in Gaza, how forces will be replaced, and how to enforce disarmament. Hamas has not yet confirmed acceptance.
If Hamas agrees, this agreement could mark a turning point in the Gaza conflict. It offers a pathway to peace, but much depends on execution and trust between the sides.
