In 2013, a Turkish man named Ibrahim Yücel attempted to quit smoking by erecting a circular cage-like structure around his head.
According to reports, Yücel, a Kütahya town resident, took this extreme step after his father died of lung cancer caused by the same habit. Yücel, who had been a heavy smoker for over two decades, found it difficult to kick the habit on his own.

He built the helmet-like structure out of 130 feet of copper wire, then locked himself inside and gave the keys to his family. Yücel survived on small meals and sips of water through the cage, as smoking was prohibited.
Throughout the ordeal, his wife was there for him. It is unknown whether this method helped Yücel quit smoking permanently.
