The UAE government has announced a major economic relief for Emirati citizens working in the private sector. Starting January 1, 2026, the minimum monthly salary has been set at AED 6,000, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) confirmed.
Previously, the minimum wage for Emirati employees in private companies was AED 5,000. The new increase represents a significant boost, equivalent to approximately PKR 457,518. The policy applies to all Emirati citizens employed in private enterprises.
The ministry stated that the new minimum salary will also apply to new work permits, as well as the renewal and modification of existing permits. Companies issuing two-year work permits must comply with the AED 6,000 minimum wage requirement.
Strict enforcement measures have been introduced. If a company fails to pay the new minimum wage, no new work permits will be issued. Existing permits will not be renewed, and no amendments or modifications to permits will be approved. Authorities have emphasized that non-compliant companies will face severe consequences.
The UAE government has granted private companies until June 30, 2026, to adjust employee salaries in line with the new policy. Heavy fines will be imposed on companies that continue to pay below the minimum wage after this deadline.
An advanced monitoring system has been implemented to ensure compliance. Companies will receive automated notifications through smart applications and digital communication tools. Officials stated this system will help track and enforce wage regulations efficiently.
The ministry said the move is designed to improve economic security and provide fair wages for Emirati employees. It also aims to enhance working conditions in the private sector while encouraging greater participation of local citizens in private enterprises.
Officials in the UAE have described the policy as a major step toward supporting Emirati workers. They stressed that the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to economic stability, social welfare, and the fair treatment of the local workforce.
